Register to Vote
Alabama gives you three ways to get registered. Choose the option that works best for you — and don't wait. Alabama law prohibits new registration within 14 days of an election.
Online Registration
The fastest way. Use the Alabama Secretary of State's official portal. You'll need the information requested on the form to complete online registration.

Download the Alabama voter registration form, fill it out completely, and mail it to the Board of Registrars in the county where you live.

Step 2
Find Where You Vote
Your polling location is assigned based on the address on your voter registration. To find yours, visit the Alabama Voter View portal and enter your name and address. You'll see your polling place name and address, your political districts, and your sample ballot.

Can't Make It to the Polls?
Absentee Voting
Alabama is not a no-excuse absentee state. You must have a qualifying reason to vote by mail. If you qualify, apply early — Alabama deadlines are based on receipt, not postmark.
Common Qualifying Reasons Include:
- check_circle You expect to be absent from your county on Election Day
- check_circle You or a family member are ill or have a physical condition that prevents you from voting in person
- check_circle You are a student, or the spouse/dependent of a student, attending school outside your home county
- check_circle You work a shift of 10 or more hours that overlaps polling-place hours
- check_circle You are a caregiver for a family member confined to the home
- check_circle You are currently incarcerated and have not been convicted of a felony involving moral turpitude
Download and complete an Absentee Ballot Application from the Alabama Secretary of State's website, or call 1-800-274-8683 to request one. Return the completed application to your county's Absentee Election Manager.

On Election Day
Know Your Rights at the Polls
Every eligible voter has rights that must be respected at the polls. Know them before you go.
Polls open at 7:00 AM and close at 7:00 PM on Election Day. If you are in line when the polls close, you have the right to vote. Stay in line.
You do not have to bring your Voter Identification Card to the polls — it is informational only. Bring your photo ID instead.
Alabama does not offer no-excuse early in-person voting. Plan to vote on Election Day or use an absentee ballot if you qualify.
